Music…the Universal Language of Peace!
On Friday evening, June 3rd at Temple Emanuel of Andover at 7:00pm, the sounds of Jewish, Arabic and Muslim music will fill the sanctuary. Under the direction of Cantor Idan Irelander, special guest Mehmet Ali Sanlikol and his ensemble DUNYA will perform various Jewish prayers influenced by traditional Muslim music. Included will be a repertoire of Turkish Sufi music using traditional Arab instruments.
During the time of the Ottoman Empire cross cultural mingling among Greeks, Jews, Muslims, Armenians, Arabs and Kurds was common. DUNYA is the Arabic word for “world.” The program will be a celebration of the harmony that comes when diverse voices and traditions come together.
This very unique program is free and open to the public. All are invited!
