BIBLE’S Greatest Hits THROUGH VISUAL MIDRASH

This class will examine visual interpretations of the Tanach’s greatest hits, such as crossing the Sea of Reeds, receiving the Ten Commandments, the Book of Ruth and Moses’s last words to the Children of Israel as they enter the Promised Land. Together we’ll consider the Sarajevo Haggadah and how artists, including Archie Rand, Ruth Weisberg and Rembrandt have chosen to express Biblical events. Explore how these artists depict the unchangeable Biblical narrative as well as later Rabbinic Interpretive Midrashim (stories and parables that explore the depths of meaning hidden in the words of the Bible).
